Beantown Thanks Richard Ashfield, Welcomes Kelly Seary

Richard Ashfield will be stepping down as Head Coach, to be replaced by Beantown alum and top-level coach Kelly Seary. Beantown is also searching for assistant and specialist coaches.

With great regret, we announce that Richard Ashfield will be stepping down from his position as Head Coach of Beantown Rugby Football Club. Beantown would like to thank Richard for his eight years of service to the team as an assistant coach and then as head coach. Richard’s efforts have helped the team to continue a tradition of excellence on and off the pitch, and led Beantown to this year’s second place finish Division 1 Championships in Glendale, Colorado.

Beantown is proud to announce that Kelly Seary, a Beantown alumnae and experienced top-level coach, will be taking over the Head Coach role, effective immediately. We are excited to have the opportunity to welcome a coach who combines a long history of dedication to Beantown with an exemplary resume of coaching experience.

Seary’s coaching experience includes assistant coach and attack specialist for the USA Rugby AIG Women’s Junior All-Americans and assistant coach for Harvard Women’s Rugby Football Club. As a player, Seary played for the Northeast Rugby Union U23 and senior all-star teams, the Canadian U-23 15s team, the USA U-23 7s team and the USA 7s Developmental squad. She has played rugby for 21 years, 14 of them for Beantown , and has served in most positions on Beantown’s Executive Board.

Apply Now: Assistant and Technical Coaches

Beantown Rugby Football Club is seeking qualified assistant and technical coaches to complete the coaching staff of our competitive D1 15s team, located in Boston, MA. Coaches will work closely with Head Coach Kelly Seary to plan and run practices; develop and execute game plans for matches; contribute to player selections; and develop the skills of athletes on the team. Beantown values a high level of communication, inclusion of players of all skill levels, and commitment to a competitive and positive playing environment.

Beantown practices every Tuesday and Thursday from late August to early November in the fall, and mid-March to mid-June in the spring. Regular season matches will take place throughout the Northeast Rugby Union region, with an additional 3-5 matches a year requiring further travel to destinations across the US and Canada for playoffs or additional competition.

Assistant Coach:

All match travel costs are reimbursed by Beantown. In addition, there is a modest annual stipend for this position. . Assistant coaches are expected to attend the majority of practices and games.

Technical Coach:

Compensation negotiable. Interested in technical coaches for areas including (but not limited to) lineouts, scrumhalf skills, and scrummaging. Specialists will attend one to four practices per season.
