Player Bio

Amanda grew up playing soccer, however, after she missed tryouts for her university’s club team, she decided to join her roommate at a rugby practice. She went to her first practice thinking she would play for a year to stay in shape for soccer, yet here she is 5 years later still showing up to practices. This sport has become integral to her life. After graduating college, she moved from California to Rhode Island to teach with Teach for America. She was looking for an elite team to join and heard great things about Beantown RFC, so she decided to make the commute every week up to Boston to play. Her teammates on Beantown have made the commute from Providence to Boston easy and have quickly become her family on the East Coast.

Her favorite thing about rugby is the community it provides. For example, she studied abroad in New Zealand and, while on a solo trip to Queenstown, she met a men’s rugby team who invited her on a road trip to watch Northland v. Southland. Just imagine an American in a van with 15 New Zealand rugby players. It was amazing experience and that road trip is her favorite memory from her entire study abroad experience.
